Mother Breastfeeding Baby

About me

About me

My Journey

Hi, my name is Alona Hodik and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a Certified Childbirth Educator but first and foremost I am the proud mother of 3 wonderful Children, 2 girls and a little boy - all exclusively breastfed and the reason I became a lactation consultant.

When I gave birth to my first daughter in 2012 I knew I wanted to breastfeed but wasn't really sure how to go about it. In the hospital, I asked the nurses to help with feedings but something just wasn't working. My baby and I continued to struggle with latching, so I called a Lactation Consultant to help me and it was like magic, something just clicked and we finally got it! Thanks to her help I exclusively breastfed my first baby for almost 2 years and she self weaned when I was six months pregnant with her sister. I went on to breastfeed my second and third babies until after their second birthdays.

During my own breastfeeding journey and struggles I realised that I want to be a Lactation Consultant and help other mothers and families just like that amazing Lactation Consultant helped me!

"I would like to share my experience with Alona, because I can definitely say that she saved my breastfeeding.
The first days after delivery were very tough for me. In the hospital I was told that my milk supply was not good enough and they started to feed my baby with formula milk. Post discharge I was experiencing a lot of anxiety as a result of this, and the pain during latching was not helping to keep my mood up.
After these first weeks of suffering, I decided to call Alona, that I had previously met in one of her free breastfeeding classes. She came into my home like a friend and thanks to her deep knowledge, experience and passion for her job, she helped me to boost my confidence and to feed my baby without pain and stress.
I have established slowly a strong bond with my boy and now I can say that breastfeeding is one of the best things I have ever experienced in my life.
Thanks amazing woman for your love and care!"

"Alona is amazing! She is positive, patient, and has great advice on breastfeeding! Anyone having trouble breastfeeding should consider talking to Alona first before giving up!"

"I was referred to Alona having had complications post birth that meant my milk was delayed in coming in. Alona was fantastic, She called me in the middle of the night in hospital to give me advice and came to visit me as soon as we got home. Fast forward 5 days milk was in and Alona's constant support and encouragement were so welcome and instrumental in ensuring I was able to breastfeed. I can't thank Alona enough. If you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable and who genuinely cares about your breastfeeding journey and both you and your baby I cannot think of a better person to support you."

"Alona has been such an asset to team baby. Her advice is thoughtful and pragmatic. The most valuable thing she gave me was confidence I could successfully breastfeed and now my baby has flourished (getting chubbier each day). I would recommend Alona to any new Mum that is seeking supportive guidance on their breastfeeding journey. Alona’s unwavering support at all hours of the day has most certainly helped me 😊"

"Words cannot describe how thankful I am that Alona was part of my journey into motherhood. I attended one of her breastfeeding courses when pregnant which not only prepared me for feeding itself, but as a mom of 3, Alona had infinite advise on everything from baby wipes to carriers to how to swaddle a baby. After my son was born, Alona couldn't have been more help. All the theory I had learned finally went into practice and Alona came to see me mere hours after giving birth. My breastfeeding journey so far has been a dream and I thank Alona so much for that."

"I would highly recommend Alona’s services. My husband and I both felt better informed after our sessions. They were open, easy to understand and very relaxed. The fact that Alona also comes to your house and you get that 1:1 experience, makes the whole process of becoming a new partner that little bit less daunting! Thanks for everything, Alona!"
